Create sugar skulls and paper skeletons, explore community altars and march in a musical procession to remember the dead. Burien Community Center Burien celebrates Día de los Muertos on Oct. 30 with storytelling, music and dance performances, sugar-skull making and other hands-on crafts, games and a community altar. Food will be available for purchase. Phinney Neighborhood Center Celebrate Día de los Muertos the evening of Nov. 1 with a procession, performances, sweet treats, art-making and a community altar. Tacoma Art Museum: http://www.tacomaartmuseum.org/event/13th-dia-de-muertos/ 13th Annual Día de los Muertos Free Community Festival November 5, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm 2017’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) brings together more than 30 community altars, a colorful tapete (sand painting), traditional foods, Aztec dancing, mariachi, art making, and more! This program is FREE and open to the public. Seattle Public Libraries Make Día de los Muertos mono prints at the South Park branch Oct. 28, clay skull magnets Oct. 29 and paper dolls Oct. 31 at the Southwest branch, and enjoy games and songs with Teatro Imaginario at the Northgate branch Oct. 29 and South Park branch Nov. 7. El Centro de la Raza - Beacon Hill Through Nov. 20, El Centro de la Raza will have an exhibit of Día de los Muertos ofrendas, or altars, with this year’s focus being the Black Lives Matter movement. They’ll host an opening celebration with food and activities on Nov. 2. Día de los Muertos is a cultural celebration strongly associated with Mexico, but also celebrated through out Latin America. We love to introduce to students at Puesta del Sol to new festivals and cultural aspects of the world. Students and families will learn about Dia de lo Muertos from activities in the classroom.
